I purchased a Sony Viao FX660G back in 2007. I purchased it used. The only maintenance I have done regarding hardware was to increase memory. The only difficulty I have had is the WiFi switch is particular for being turned on (thank goodness for the light) and the touch pad is too sensitive.

Bought a Sony Vaio August 2009. Had problems with a noisy fan within 6 months and it died within 16 months...never again Sony!

It didn't even last me a year.I paid over 1400 Dollars for that piece of crap. First of all the base/housing of the laptop wasn't flat such that when I put the laptop on flat surface, the laptop was wobbling, I sent it back and they changed the base but the same shit again.I'm wondering if they ever inspect the product before shipping it back!? second, It had over heating problem and that caused the Fan to run continuously. So I dropped it off at one of SonyStyle store to fix it, after 4 weeks of having my laptop and me calling them everyday ,I eventually gave up and I got my laptop back without them having it repaired (they said they had a problem ordering the part !!!!!!!!) Out of 11 months that I have this laptop, it was in repair shop for almost 2.5 months. Isn't it ridiculous. So do yourself a favor and buy something else.
