Weighing only 2.2 lbs, the Panasonic Toughbook U1 is built on the Ultra Mobile PC technology. With a height of 2.1 inches, it looks more of a novel (book) than a notebook PC at the first glance. The notebook is built for beginners and people with low budget. The slim marvel does not compensate on any of the features to profit from the reduced rates. For example, the speakers offer surround sound though not based on Dolby technology.
The Panasonic Toughbook U1 is really tough with the Intel Atom processor of 64 bit running at 1.33 GHz. The internal cache is L2 type with 512 data capacity. Installed RAM is 1 GB while the HDD can store up to 32 GB. Optical drive is absent in the model though it supports a range external storage devices of varying storage capacity via the USB.
The display is placed on the interior of lid and is 5.6 inch. The maximum resolution is 1024 x 600 wide pixels with support for PAL videos also. Based on 24 bit color depth, the display can produce millions of colors. It has a dedicated video memory of 256 MB.
The Panasonic Toughbook U1 comes under the ultra-portable laptops. It is ideal for people not willing to spend much cash on notebooks as well as college students who can’t put in extra money.
