About Lenovo

Lenovo, founded in China in 1984 by Liu Chuanzhi from the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the Asia's largest PC manufacturer. A circuit board that generated Chinese characters on Western-made PC’s was the first product launched by them in the late 1980s. The "Lenovo" word was coined from the words "Le-" (from Legend) and "novo", pseudo-Latin for "new". And in the late 1990s, its Pentium-based Conet PC came bundled with a modem and access to internet.

Lenovo wanted to expand into Western markets to become the third largest PC manufacturer in the world. Lenovo was literally unknown outside China, but made the headlines with the announcement of its intent to acquire the PC division of IBM in December 2004. Prior to this, it had already acquired twenty-five percent of the Asian market, largely due to its ability to sell computers at affordable prices and China's high tariffs on imports. Lenovo paid a whopping $1.25 billion to IBM thus in 2004 Lenovo acquired the personal computer division of IBM, making it one of the largest foreign acquisitions in Chinese history. It became the owner of the legendary ThinkPad brand for laptop PCs and thus moved its executive headquarters to New York State.

Lenovo launched its first self-branded product line in 2006, since the IBM PC acquisition. While having the business models built on innovation, operational efficiency and investment in the emerging markets, Lenovo Group Ltd is a largest computing company. It has its major research centers located in Yamato, Japan; Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, China; and Raleigh, North Carolina, the United States. Thus the company develops, manufactures and markets the reliable, secure and easy-to-use technological products and services worldwide.

Now Lenovo Group Limited is the largest personal computer manufacturer in the People's Republic of China, and as of 2004 is the third largest in the world. The original company was incorporated in 1984 in Beijing, but the listed holding company was incorporated in 1988 in Hong Kong, now a Special Administrative Region of China. Its headquarters are in Purchase, New York(USA). However, the company plans to move its headquarters to Raleigh, North Carolina which is the home of IBM's former ThinkPad group.

As a result of a Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States on May 1, 2005, Lenovo's product line includes the ThinkVision, ThinkPad, ThinkVantage, ThinkCentre, Aptiva and NetVista. The wide range of product lines of Lenovo includes servers, handheld computers, imaging equipment, and mobile phone handsets along with the desktop and laptop computers. It also provides information technology integration and support services and its QDI unit offers contract manufacturing.

Like the Lenovo ThinkPad X60s, the Lenovo 3000 V100 has a 12-inch screen, but it's a 12-inch widescreen with 1280 x 800 pixels. Lenovo laptop computer also has a built-in DVD burner, making it a better all-around solution than the X60s. It weighs just over a pound more and doesn't have an integrated antenna for Verizon EVDO, but it does include an integrated webcam and microphone. The Lenovo V100 gets about 4 hours of battery life compared to 8 hours for the ThinkPad X60s, but if you are concerned about the budget, the V100 is a good compromise.

Lenovo are really doing a good job with their notebook line up. Their notebooks have great specs, great looks, good build quality and excellent screens. The new Lenovo 3000 N is a multimedia notebook that can be configured with an ATI X1600 graphics card and a Core 2 Duo processor.

I have been using the Lenovo 3000N from the past 2months. I found it very good for my domestic and official use. The processor speed and the Lap getting overheated has to be optimised for better performance. It is ok for office...

I bought a brand new Lenovo laptop. Actually i'm a Graphics designer and the low processor speed and low cache memories always make me wait in doing my work. The processor speed and the AGP cards should be enhanced to suit my work load. The Lenovo has improper custmer support and often mislead in giving the proper information..

We got a Lenovo Z60. The initial startup proved completely disfunctional as the computer was slow and the "security" system paralyzed the system. We had to wipe the computer and start over with the "security" feature absent. We run fine now with Windows XP firewall and McAfee virus protection. Lenovo also managed to send our computer to the wrong address, delaying delivery for a month and still haven't resolved everything. Next time, it's a DELL.
