All about IBM ThinkPad
IBM stands for International Business Machines Corporation, which is an American computer technology firm and has its headquarters located in Armonk, NY, USA. IBM and was established in 1888. It manufactures and markets computer hardware, software, infrastructure services, hosting services, and consulting services. IBM first used to develop punched card data processing equipment, and then after some time it started making IBM Thinkpad. It has been formed by merging the three companies- the Tabulating Machine Corporation of Washington D.C, the Computing Scale Corporation of Dayton, Ohio and the International Time Recording Company of Endicott, NY.
IBM has eight laboratories, which are located in the Northern Hemisphere, out of those three are located in United State. In USA, IBM has been awarded, four Turing Awards, five National Medals of Technology, and five National Medals of Science, and outside the USA, many equivalents. IBM sales figure for their PC's with Chinese computer maker Lenovo Group, which is partially owned by the Chinese government is of $650 million US in cash and $600 million US in Lenovo stock. And the deal has been approved by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, 2005. IBM will have a 19% stake in Lenovo, which will move its headquarters to New York State and appoint an IBM executive as its chief executive officer. The company will retain the right to use certain IBM brand names for an initial period of five years. As a result of the purchase, Lenovo inherited a product line that featured the ThinkPad, a line of laptops that had been one of IBM's most successful products.
IBM recently involved partnership with several gaming companies as part of new focus on gaming. It will provide grid computing, on-demand, and blade server solutions. Some of the associated companies are Butterfly, Hoplon Infotainment, Online Game Services Incorporated, and RenderRocket. IBM has projects with BlueEye technology that aims to enable devices to recognize and use natural input, such as facial expressions. An Eclipse is a platform-independent software framework written in the Java programming language which was originally a proprietary product developed by IBM as a successor of its VisualAge family of tools. It is nowadays managed by the non-profit Eclipse Foundation and the source code is released under the free software/open source license Eclipse Public License.
