All About Dell Laptops

Dell Inc., is an American computer hardware company based in Round Rock, Texas, Formed by Michael Dell, while he was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. He founded the company as "PC" Limited with just $1000, in his room, an off campus dorm, in 1984 to sell IBM-compatible computers built from stock components.

The company has been formed on the principle that by selling computer systems directly to the customers, it could best understand their needs and provide them the most effective computing solutions. The solutions can be for a wide range of personal computer, servers, data storages devices, network switches, personal digital assistance for software, computer peripherals and so on.

Dell Laptops computers bring the ease of convenience and high performance machine together, at affordable prices. Dell laptops bring integrated high-speed 3G connectivity and high performance in form factors, both small and large. Dell meets your need for higher performance, excellent value or a lightweight travel notebook. Dell laptops span a wide range of sizes from 12 inches to 20 inches; these are powerful but pricey laptops featuring an Intel Core Duo processor and Microsoft’s Media Center OS. The display resolutions of the dell laptops are 855/865/815 and 1400 * 1050 chipset.

The different types of laptop are

1. Ultraportables:Laptops have screens typically less than 12 inches diagonally and weigh less than 1.7kg. Their primary audience is usually business travelers who need small, lightweight laptops. Ultraportables are often very expensive and house power-saving CPUs and almost always have integrated graphics.

2. Thin-and-lights:These are the Laptops which weigh between 1.8kg and 2.8kg with a screen size of 12 or 14 inches diagonally.

3. Medium-sized laptops:These are usually having screens of 15 - 15.4 inches diagonally and weigh around 3-3.5kg.

4. Desktop replacement computers:These are powerful laptops mainly used in a fixed location and infrequently carried out due to there weight and size. They provide more space for powerful components and a big screen - usually measuring 15 inches or more for desktop replacements and often have limited battery life due to their hardware, rarely exceeding three hours.

Dell manufactures its products close to the customers. The assembling of desktop computers for the North American market takes place at Dell Laptops plants in Austin, Texas and in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with servers built in Nashville, Tennessee. Dell, Inc. assembles computers for Europe in Limerick City, Ireland. The major competitors of Dell are Apple, Hewlett-Packard/Compaq, Packard Bell, Sun Microsystems, Gateway/Emachines, Lenovo, Sony, Toshiba, and MDG Computers in Canada. Enthusiast market competition takes place with Alienware, now which is a Dell’s division- Falcon Northwest, Voodoo PC, WidowPC, Sin Systems Inc. and other manufacturers. By August 2003, Dell Laptops lowered their product prices by 22% in an attempt to generate more sales; however this disappointed shareholders, sending it shares down by 2% in late Wall-Street trading, amid fears of a sector-wide slump.

Dell Laptops Models:

Dell Inspiron : The Dell Inspiron is a laptop brand of Dell computers targeted at the consumer markets with different specification models, and its current modules are B130, E1405, E1505 and E1705. First-generation Dell Inspirion XPS and Dell Inspiration 9100, both share the same option in processors with Intel Pentium 4 HT "Prescott", RAM of DDR 400 MHz, hard-drives with Ultra-ATA 5400/7200 RPM, wireless cards, LCD screens at 15.4-inches, WXGA, WSXGA+, WUXGA, along with graphical cards of ATI Mobility, Redeon 9700 64MB/128MB. It marked XPS as an "ultimate gaming machine", and 9100 as "desktop replacement".

Inspiron e1505 : The Inspiron e1505 is a one with Core Duo PCMAG, just based on 15.4 inch widescreen and supported with 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, 80GB (5400rpm) disk, 802.11b/g, dual-layer DVD burner, and ATI Mobility Radion X1300 graphics. It is a perfect one for the people who appreciate technology on a budget. The battery only manages for about 3 hours. While ordering you have to enter a goofy of E-Value code "E1505PC", if you expect your kit to ring-up with that sub-grand price tag. Righteous pricing indeed for this full featured and powerful kit. The E1505 is available with familiar arctic-silver chassis and white edges. At a cost of 6.6 pounds, it is little lighter than the 7-pound Inspiron 6000. The keyboard is comfortable to use, and especially doesn't heat up after extensive typing, as many do. And the user will be pleased as Dell has fixed the noisy mouse buttons.

Inspiron e1705 : The Inspiron e1705 is available either with an Intel Core Duo or Solo processor, this machine features a 17-inch XGA (or WUXGA) wide-screen LCD. Options also include a Vidia GeForce Go7900 GS, ATI Radeon x1600 with 256mb of RAM or an Intel GMA 950. This model uses 533 MHz or 667 MHz of DDR2 memory. In Dell Laptops Inspiron e1705 has connectivity options in plentiful, with six USB ports, one FireWire port, a 5-in-1 card reader, and a DVI-D port for sending content to a high-end display. On the other hand, the 80GB hard drive installed in our test machine is probably not enough for an avid video editor.

Inspiron e1405 : The Inspiron e1405 is a 14 inches notebook configurable with components similar to the E1505 excluding the dedicated GPU options but a bit smaller in total size. At the time Inspiron e1405 was released, it was known for its excellent battery life with under optimum conditions exceeding five hours with a six-cell battery and over eight hours for a slightly more expensive range, along with optional nine-cell battery.

Insprion B130 : The Inspiron B130 is a budget notebook and mainly constructed in a manner to keep costs down. Its body casing is entirely plastic, no fancy aluminum or magnesium protection. The plastic used is not flimsy tough, it is actually quite sturdy. Operating of the Dell Laptops of Inspiron B130 will be easier to the user.

XPS M2010 : The XPS M2010 is the system having a 20.1 inches LCD screen with a 1680x1050 resolution and it can be transported easier than a desktop computer system, but much of XPS M2010 components are still based upon notebook technology, only in a larger format. The system weighs an astounding 18.5 lbs. It is not known to many people who would really want to carry around this with them for any extended period of time. It has base measures as 19.3 x 8.3 x 2 inches.

XPS M1210 : The Dell XPS M1210 ultramobile notebook offers superior value. It sports a revolutionary design that turns the display supports into a system handle when the system is closed. The Dell XPS M1210 model weighs just 4.37 pound with a durable magnesium alloy frame. We can add A/V package that includes an integrated webcam, video chat software, Skype Internet communication software, noise-isolation earbuds and optional embedded mobile broadband. This complete communication solution includes a built-in 1.3 mega pixel camera, an integrated omni-directional microphone and an integrated mobile broadband antenna.

XPS M1710 : The XPS M1710 designing is nearly identical to the previous model, the Dell XPS M170 and it is very similar to the more multimedia-focused Inspiron E1705. It has stylish magnesium alloy and it measures 15.5 inches wide, 11.3 inches deep and 1.6 inches thick. The XPS M1710 includes a full-size keyboard, though it has a separate number pad.

I bought a dell one year ago for pretty basic purposes. E-mail, web browsing, and Microsoft Works... The hard drive crashed six months in. Since I fixed that it has been non-stop misery, flickering screen, slow, faulty keyboard. ABORT, MISSION CRITICAL

you people buy the cheapest model and expect top level performance! Get a reality check, save some money for a higher model and learn to use it and what the various processors can do for you. You get what you pay for!

I have had a Dell Inspiron E1505 for about two years now and can honestly say that it is the worst laptop I have ever owned. It has been hundreds of dollars to keep running on top of the initial cost. Help lines are horrible to deal with and I would never suggest this brand to any person (not even an enemy). Avoid this brand!

Laptop is good, but for Canadian customers avoid dell like the plague until shipping is other than Purolator. They *will* lose your shipment, they *will* lie to you, and they may never even deliver your laptop.

Hi everybody, I want to tell you about my new Dell Inspiron laptop. I am using this laptop for the last 1 year. It came with Intel Celetron M processor and preloaded Windows XP home. Its RAM speed is 256MB RAM and 40 GB hard drive. 15 inch monito with LCD screen. It is having intel graphical chipset 855/865/915 and 1400 * 1050 of resolution in Linux. However, for intense games, I recommend that you have two to four GB of RAM. The XPS 600 has four slots and will support up to four GB of RAM—this will run any game at top performance. Finally I can say that Delllaptops are very effecient in teir performance. The different modules it has are Dell Inspirion 510m, Dell Inspiron 6000, Dell inspiron 1150, Dell Inspiron 510m.
