All About iBook G4
The iBook G4 was developed by the Apple Computer Corporation in the year 2003. This genre of laptops consisted of PowerPC G4 chip, slot-loading optical drives and a solid white keyboard, added on 23rd October, 2003-finally ending Apple’s use of the G3 chip. This model was available until the 16 May, 2006, when the announcement of the MacBook eliminated both the iBook G4 and the 12-inch PowerBook G4.
With its refreshed look for the 14-inch iBook G4, Apple delivers one more clean, white, minimalist notebook, but with fewer upgrades. Thus the company has finally decided that wireless is now not an option but a necessity, so every iBook comes with an AirPort Extreme cards that supports 802.11g Wi-Fi. While the iBook G4 still represents the budget of Apple's notebook lineup, thus buying this involves fewer compromises than with previous iBooks.
Along the left side of the 14-inch iBook G4, the user will find a handful of connections, like one FireWire 400 port, two USB 2.0 ports, a video out, Ethernet (10/100BaseT), modem (56Kbps, v.92) ports, and a headphone jack. The right side holds the 14-inch iBook G4's cool SuperDrive, which both reads and writes with DVD-R and CD-RW. Instead of the flimsy sliding disc tray which is found on many PC laptops, the 14-inch iBook G4 has a simple slot that smoothly accepts and ejects discs with perfection. It doesn't contain the memory-card reader. However, this feature is included on more PC laptops, and it would be a better option in being added to future models.
The Apple engineers designed the iBook G4 from the inside out to stand up to the rigors of a strenuous life of the users. The Apple G4 is of ultra tough polycarbonate plastic - which is used in the bulletproof glass - the iBook's sleek white case resists impact. While that measure alone might have allowed iBook to comfortably survive daily use, Apple engineers took the idea of protecting your investment quite seriously. Inside the Apple G4, a sturdy magnesium frame provides superior strength, while reducing the weight of the iBook G4 to well below that of other full-featured PC notebooks. Rubber is mounted, to resist bump tolerance and the iBook's hard disk drive lets you store all of your important digital goodies and your favorite stuff.
